Our Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner is sulfate, sodium chloride, and drying alcohol-free yet we quite frequently get people who look at the ingredients list and claim we are lying because they see the word sodium, or alcohol, or an ingredient that happens to have the first letters of SLS. The problem is not that we are lying, but rather in the reader’s understanding of chemical compounds.
When people look at the ingredients list and see such things as sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate, sodium lauryl sarcosinate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, and sodium lauroamphoacetate they automatically assume this means there is salt in the shampoo. Even shampoos that claim to be 100% natural will still have the word sodium somewhere in the ingredients.
Salt, or its chemical name “sodium chloride,” is harmful to chemically straightened hair and it can also pull moisture out of a person’s hair. All the ingredients above are vegetable derived ingredients (coconut and palm oils) that do not act like sodium chloride. Salt contains both sodium and chlorine and is used in in shampoo as a thickening agent. Salt is an irritant and can damage the hair and scalp when used repeatedly over time.
According to the FDA website, "The words "salt" and "sodium" do not mean the same thing, but they are often used interchangeably. Salt, also known by its chemical name sodium chloride, is a crystal-like compound that is abundant in nature and is used to flavor and preserve food. Sodium just is one of the chemical elements found in salt."
Vizeri Beauty’s Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner does NOT contain sodium chloride!
The ingredients list in shampoos can be very confusing since many things not wanted in shampoo sound amazingly the same as those that are. As an example, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a powerful detergent that is will strip skin of important oils and proteins, and it produces lots of lather. Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (SLES, SLS, and ALS) are sulfates and these are the ones you want to avoid.
Vizeri Beauty’s product contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA). Even though they sound like the same thing, these two ingredients couldn't be any more different from each other. Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate is derived from coconut and palm oils and, unlike SLS, has been found to be safe for skin.
The plant derived SLSA effectively helps to remove oil, dirt and bacteria, without drying or irritating even the most sensitive skin. Even though both SLS and SLSA both contain the word “sodium” in them, once again, they are still not sodium-chloride based.

Another thing that confuses people is that some of the ingredients have the word “alcohol” in them and we claim to be drying alcohol free. Here is detailed article on this topic.
But to sum up the article above, there are different types of alcohol and not all are bad for hair. Our product contains "fatty alcohols" which are actually moisturizers found in all sorts of products like body lotions. You will see Stearyl alcohol and Cetyl alcohol in the ingredients list for the shampoo. These are the good alcohols that help moisturize hair and skin. You want to avoid the short-chain alcohols like Propyl and Isopropyl alcohols since they dry out your hair.
Vizeri Beauty’s Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner does NOT contain drying alcohols!
Our products are also paraben free, which is a good thing since parabens have been found in breast tumors. It's not known if they actually cause the tumors, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
So as you can see reading ingredients lists on products can be very confusing, but a little Google research will verify that everything we are saying here is true if you are still skeptical.
